My name is Tieshae Huntsman. I am 40 years old. I was born July 15, 1978. I am a native of Watts, California. I have seen my share of war and poverty in the ghetto. When I was growing up, I didn’t know that the life I was born into was poverty and street violence. I thought it was the normal way of life. Growing up I was physically, mentally and emotionally abused, unloved, and abandoned. I suppressed my feelings and internalized so much hurt and pain. Outwardly, I became someone different. No one really knew the real me. Life in these streets, I HAD TO FIGHT AND FIGHT AND SHIELD MYSELF FROM LOVE and PAIN, when I so desperately wanted to be loved and happy. This made me become angry, sad and at times heartless. I wanted a family, MY FAMILY. I had no one, so I turned to the streets and joined a gang. My gang became my family. I was finally accepted, wanted, and loved. At the age of twelve, I started the vicious cycle of incarceration. I went from juvenile hall to juvenile prison and ultimately to the FEDs, due to drugs and gang activity. I hated confinement, but it never stopped me from going back. It was my normal way of life. I cheated death on many occasions. I endured and had to overcome so much. I did not know what my purpose here on earth was for. I questioned God multiple times. I was lost. I had to learn how to cope and learn self-discipline. Lyfe After The Feds, I am on a mission to understand and accept love, happiness and gain success. I have to learn how to love myself, and others. And it is still a struggle. The one thing I know about myself is that, whatever I set out to do, I always accomplish my mission
